Operaestate Festival dance(s) during the whole summer

Dance will open and close the 35th edition of Operaestate Festival Veneto.

And not only by chance.

The interest in this form of art, in terms of projects as well as acknowledgments and audience, is growing and taking up more and more space within the Festival itself.

European Union approved as many as 11 dance projects of the CSC/Dance House of Bassano. Three of these will impress particular profoundness to the whole Operaestate, placing Dance at a higher level: a form of art and expression capable of influencing political and social aspects.

July 3rd and 4th will be dedicated to the final works of the two years project Migrant Bodies. Choreographers, dancers, writers and visual artists – coming from 5 different Countries, including Canada – were asked to express, through their work, the positive and profound aspects that the migration phenomenon may be able to give to our society: richness and value of cultural contamination.

On August 20th 21st and 23rd, the choreographer Dario Tortorelli will present, during Bmotion Dance (a festival in the festival dedicated to the new generations of contemporary dance), the national premier “ArMare un uomo”. This performance involves some of the dancers of Dance for Health Italia – Progetto Parkinson.

Twice a week during the year about fifty people of any age affected and not by Parkinson, meet at the Museo Civico of Bassano and dance together, sharing this particular space around the Museum’s artworks. From this activity, thanks to dance, these persons receive a great benefit and experience an improvement in the quality of their lives. This kind of meeting represents a true unexpected experience of shared joy.

But dance can not only improve integration between people.

Roberto Casarotto – the dance art director – has underlined, during the press conference, that dance is constantly experimenting new ways of living urban and art spaces and getting in touch with the public in an involving way.

That’s why so many performances will take place in the urban centre of Bassano, in historical villas, in traditional and “an plain air” museums. The new approved project “Dancing Museum” will be presented exactly in this arena. In this perspective the directors of the five international Dance Houses of: Paris, London, Vienna, Rotterdam and Bassano will meet the directors of their Town museums (Louvre, National Gallery ecc.) in order to start cooperating. The beautiful Arte Sella, an open air museum located in Borgo Valsugana (TN), will host the event and the performances (August 29th and 30th) that will dialogue with the works created by and with nature.

But, as I said, dance increases the involvement of the audience, even as “dancers”.

To celebrate the centenary of the First World War, Sharon Fridman will create original choreographies in some of the symbolic war sites: Bassano (July 23rd), Crespano del Grappa (July 24th) and Asiago (July 25th). 100 dancers and 300 singers of the popular and alpine choirs will be the protagonists of this outstanding event.

The programme includes the artists that the festival has supported in these last years: Alessandro Sciarroni, Itamar Serussi, Giorgia Nardin, Marco D’agostin, Silvia Gribaudi, Chiara Bersani, as well, the performances and the Bmotion Classes of the international choreographers and dancers of Aerowaves network.

Tania Carvalho‘s national preview (August 8th) “Weaving Chaos” promises to be shocking. The performance inspired by the Odyssey, has already raised a lot of discussion among the audience in Lyon.

During this edition there will be a great return on stage with Carolyn Carlson (July 17th), performing her triptych “Short Stories”, described by the critics as “not a dance but a live poetry”.

And last but not least everyone “on two wheels”, on September 6th , for the second edition of Cycling Dance. 50 km along the cycle path following river Brenta until Trentino’s mountains and where dance “stops&steps” will end what is promised to be a long hot season.
