Mini BMotion Danza 2017 | Feedback of “Stabat Mater” by Pablo Leyton & Dance Well

I danzatori mascherati sembrano creature fantastiche e ultraterrene.

Dance seen through a child’s eyes | Feedback number 2.

The message is one of peace, unity and love that issues from the Mini B Motion children’s designs — their comment upon Pablo Leyton’s performance. The masked dancers looked like unreal and ultra-terrestrial creatures. On removing the masks, dancers are depicted as smiling, cheerful, colourful people.

Some of the children depicted the architectural space for the scenery too, with astonishing fidelity. Others focused on the details; the clothes entwined together, forming a braiding, an embrace, a union. Some had incorporated keywords: ‘unity’, ‘love’. Others had interpreted the moving embrace between the two performers as a mother and child. Others had also portrayed the moment when the elderly gentleman was lifted above the chorus as ‘the body of Jesus’. Others simply emphasised the group’s joyfulness.

Everyone had drawn the same story, each with slightly different accentuations which — when  viewed together — formed an almost complete narrative of the show. Moreover, they reveal its most intimate and hidden meaning, its dramaturgy and choreographic structure. Like fragments making up a magnificent mosaic.

Eva Boarotto, danzatrice e performer del progetto Dance Well

“With the mask on you feel strong and you think you can go it alone, but then, when you remove it, you realise that you have to form a unified group in order to advance without fearing others with all your insecurities, whether or not you recognise them. The group supports you and helps you go forward. It won’t abandon you. It is attentive, it’s ready to rescue you if you go astray. With the group you will share part of your journey. Once in a while someone will need to break away to deal with life’s travails alone, but then will realises that true empowerment is always within the group that will once again be there, ready to welcome you back, bringing all your flaws to the fore, which is also your strength. When you return to being one of many, a glance is all you’ll need for the group to know how to care and replenish you emotionally once more. It will help you unblock that which stops you from advancing freely, respecting your individuality. There will always be someone ready to piece together the fragments of life that you have scattered on the floor, because these are never really lost or forgotten: they make up your story and at the end of this long journey you will be able to frame yourself as a work of art, one who lives and shares the joys of life serenely.”

Eva Boarotto, dancer and performer of the Dance Well project
