ENG|«What is Dialogue for you? ». This is the question that opened the first of the series of meetings that will liven up the entire week of BMotion Dance 2019- which officially starts today, Wednesday 21st August.
What does dialogue mean for me? To understand this I followed the directives of Peggy Olislaegers – who deftly constructs and facilitates the debates: «Take your time and go back to something that you had experienced before». I mulled over it, I even asked myself what does not constitute a dialogue for me, fishing out from my memory the feeling I experienced during those moments when I clearly felt its absence or loss. Now I’ve got it. For me, Dialogue is presence, listening, paying attention. I think I am able to recognise it in the gaze, in the body posture, in the gestures, in the altruistic use of words, in the authentic silence of those around me. But Dialogue is also when I need to take stock of the situation by myself: where am I? What am I doing? Am I really where I want to be? Am I really doing what I want to be doing, what I feel is necessary?
This and many others are the meanings that arose in the course of these days from the life experiences of the participants- artists and non-artists- from all around the world (from Australia to the Netherlands, from Japan to Iceland).
For the very young Grace Okebugwu, Dialogue is «when sharing a part of myself- be it a thought or an emotion- I feel real, alive. I feel that I exist, and not just for myself». Whereas for Rianto, the Indonesian dancer and choreographer of whom we will shortly release an interview, «we are constantly in dialogue, our brain is dialogue, our skin is dialogue, our body is dialogue, every gesture is dialogue and so is our environment and our family». Dialogue is part of the continuous movement of life. A sort of never-ending flow that artist Ginelle Chagnon described as «the flow of a river leading to the ocean».
Several other words were also brought up, such as empathy, compassion, exchange, trust, letting go, protection, energy, privacy, change and many others we will tell you more about in the following days as we attempt to put a face to these words.
It may seem strange that a contemporary dance festival should dwell and explore in depth themes such as these, but this is part of the good practices that BMotion Dance has established and reinforced over the years. For some time now, the Festival signed Roberto Casarotto is no longer just a series of shows – which are nonetheless included in a programme from the afternoon until late in the evening – but a catalyst for activities and international projects for the contemporary scene, capable of hosting, nurturing, of giving rise to meetings, intersections, bonds and experiences. The starting point is always a physical practice (each day opens with practices open even to those that have never danced before, and it is always a physical practice that acts as an intermission to the debate during the meetings) and we come back to dance as a space of metaphors and metonymies, of condensation and digression, of social sharing and inclusion.
Hence, the B.Meetings, the B.Classes with some choreographers hosted by the festival, the workshops promoted by the network of dance teachers NoLimita-C-Tions, the training programme of Mini-B-Motion dedicated to the youngest dancers, the intensive research programme for choreographers, the training program to teach Dance Well are all welcome events, but so are the projections of films on dance (one of the new additions of this edition) and the project Museum of Human E-motions, another of which we will be able to give you further insight. These are nonetheless pathways that can deviate from their trajectories, that can bend our stiffness, and awaken another social dimension, or, in this case, occasions to also reflect on those themes that we often take for granted.
Now, take all the time you need and try to give your own answer to that initial question «What is Dialogue for you? ». And if you want to share your thoughts, you can write to us at our email address: abcdanceblog@gmail.com

ITA|«What is Dialogue for you?».
Per capirlo ho seguito l’indicazione di Peggy Olislaegers – colei che con arguzia costruisce e facilita i dibattiti: «Take your time and go back to something that you had experienced before». Per me Dialogo è presenza, ascolto, attenzione.
What is Dialogue for you?».
