The body as an archive | “Seeking Unicorns” by Chiara Bersani

LA VERSIONE ITALIANA SEGUE QUELLA INGLESE

22 August 2018 | They say that in oriental culture the names for theatre, dance, music and singing all have the same word. For me this word, in Italian, is “Chiara Bersani”. I was as excited as if on a first date prior to meeting this activist artist with an ingenious and irresistibly poetic personality. She has burned her own biography upon her body, artistic and human. There are many different spheres of art and art-forms that Bersani has and continues to explore; from dance to theatre, writing to film. She won a scholarship to Scuola di Alta Formazione in Sceneggiatura per il Cinema (run by Marco Bellocchio). To her credit had already worked with numerous internationally renowned artists; from the French choreographer Jérôme Bel to the Argentinian director Rodrigo Garcia, from the choreographers Alessandro Sciarroni and Silvia Gribaudi to the actors and directors of Babilonia Teatri. One ought also to mention her inaugural zeal for the artists Marco D’Agostin and Remo Ramponi, names that she accredited in her most recent works: Miracle Blade and Goodnight Peeping Tom. Currently she is an honoured guest at B.Motion Danza 2018, presenting her latest work: Seeking Unicorns, a monologue on stage in which she offers her body to the audience. She does so with elegance and irony, lightness and intelligence. The vision of her body, clothed in white, next to the red robes of Giovanni Battista, the eighteenth-century canvas hanging on the wall behind her, while a trumpet lies unplayed on her right. The aesthetic and ethical sum of this performance, held within one of Bassano del Grappa’s Civic Museum galleries, is of great emotional impact.

Below is our video interview (English subtitles available) shot inside the Museum, next to one of Antonio Riello’s art installations.

TESTO ITALIANO
