A GLANCE AT DANCE | “Libera la natura 1/2/3” narrated by Yolanda Morales and Anna Kushnirenko ENG/ITA

(The italian version follows below)

ENGLISH | Operaestate Danza 2022 | Padova Botanical Garden and Villa Bolasco Park, Castelfranco Veneto, 27 and 28 July 2022 | There are endless ways to tell the story of dance through images and written words. This time we have relied on the words of Yolanda Morales in English, a polyglot Mexican dancer and choreographer based in Hamburg, as well as the eyes of the young Ukrainian photographer and artist Anna Kushinirenko to narrate “Libera la Natura 1/2/3”, a triptych of three performances created by three pairs of artists: choreographer Sara Sguotti and writer Arianna Ulian; choreographer Stefania Tansini and writer Simona Vinci; choreographer Masako Matsushita and writer Laura Pugno.

Yolanda Morales also attended the replica performance held at the Villa Bolasco Park in Castelfranco; Anna Kushnirenko was at the dress rehearsal of the performance held at Padova’s Botanical Garden. Two gazes, two languages and two different stage-sites woven together to tell the story of dance. Below is the brief review by Yolanda Morales along with a photo-gallery by Anna Kushnirenko.

In a performance where the text seemed to be the generator of meanings and not being able to access it due to the language barrier, I was aware more than ever of the body in space. The garden and the night were the canvas where very poetic images were captured for me. The nocturnal nature looked like a poem per se.

The bodies that crossed the space in a hypnotic rhythm, were very far from me, intangible, a certain mysticism, ritual was written and disappeared, the space was transformed for a few seconds with the presence of women*, creating harmonic images along with the spoken text. I had the feeling that I was missing the message, the power of the message of the texts from the writers.

I was still waiting for the irruptions. Anyway, I missed seeing the transformed body but the body barely was disturbed/ perturbed. The night after the performance I asked myself, are the irruptions, the transformation, necessary to liberate nature? Or one night is enough where our senses only enjoy beautiful images in the gardens of this region.
