Biennale Dance | It’s festival time!

It’s Festival Time.

Here in Veneto we begin with The Biennale Dance Festival which takes place in Venice from June 25th to June 28th. This year the Festival will focus on Biennale Dance College, most of the activities of which will be training, improving technical dance skills as well as creating unique performances.

The College was created in 2013 bringing together a selected group of young dancers and international choreographers to hold a workshop in ten days.
The goal is not only to train and develop specific abilities and skills, but also to involve participants in a creative process granting a particular intensity and depth to these meetings.

biennale

“The dignity of the gesture” is the symbolic title given to the Biennale Dance by the artistic director Virgilio Sieni this year.

During the first edition in 2013 Venice represented “Living the World” in a metaphorical manner, perhaps a world to be discovered and made our own. The 2014 edition became “Mondo Novo” (New World) representing a new “geography” drawn between “campi” and “campielli”.

In addition, in the 2015 edition Venice, as the backbone of this three-year project, will metaphorically be “the center of the World” to represent an open system to passage, crossing, participation and sharing.
And more, this Town is a force that operates within the “archeology” of Manhood not intended as a simple chronological recovery, but a recovery of the intrinsic value of the human being.

Historical palaces, campi, theatres will be inhabited throughtout the day – from 12 to 22 pm – by the choregraphies of: Laurent Chétouane, Yasmine Hugonnet, Claudia Castellucci, Cesc Gelabert, Xavier Le Roy, Emanuel Gat, Olivia Grandville, Salva Sanchis, Annamaria Ajmone, Collettivo Cinetico, Alessandro Sciarroni, Radhouane El Meddeb.
While 31 young dancers, aged 10 to 15, will be the protagonists of original choreographies by Sharon Fridman (Vastagos), Marina Giovannini (Verve – Quartetto colore), and the 2014 Silver Lion Michele Di Stefano (Occhio di bue).

Fase- De-Keersmaker
Anne Teresa De Keersmaker, the Belgium choreographer, will be back on stage at the Biennale after 15 years and will be rewarded with the Golden Lion.
The choreographer will also present “Fase”, her storical performance, where she dances with her peer Tale Down.

During the week 7 of the 27 scenes of  “Vangelo secondo Matteo” will be reviewed in Ca’ Giustinian.
This project by Virgilio Sieni, involved 200 interpreters in its last edition including dancers and common people coming from various regions in Italy.
The video of the entire project “Vangelo secondo Matteo” will be projected “in continuo” at the Art Laboratory in Ca’ Giustinian.

A last and very good point to take into consideration is represented by the fact that most of the tickets will cost only 4 euro, while the entrance to the open air performances in “campi” and “campielli” will be free. Not bad!
